Sofia was born in Greece, a country with absolutely no tradition in Circus Arts. From a young age she felt drawn to the world of show business, sports and foreign cultures. She loved theatre and dance and missed no opportunity to perform in school productions; she trained in gymnastics and won prizes in swimming.
Her first encounter with trapeze came with an Italian family circus that performed in her neighborhood. This encounter changed her life - a dream was born. Clearly a born performer, Sofia, was ambitious and not afraid to follow her dream.
Still a teenager, she left her home and family to run away with the circus and swing on trapeze! Two years later, driven by her will to perfect her art and develop her own style, she left the circus to train with Europe’s prestigious school of acrobatics, Ecole National de Cirque Annie Fratellini in Paris. There, after trying various circus disciplines, she specialized in static choreographic trapeze. While still student in 1999 she won her first award as the Best Aerial Act in UK, from the Circus Friends Association of Great Britain.
In true Cinderella style, Sofia washed floors, sold ice cream and minded children to fund her dreams whilst her talent, vision, business acumen and energy enabled her to proudly represent her country as the first Greek aerial artist.
Over the years she has performed in various prestigious productions: circus, variety, music hall, and other special events all over the world. Obsessed to continue to expand and perfect her art, she sought out inspiration and knowledge from the top schools and performers of the field. Hence she has travelled to Russia and Canada, two countries renowned for producing world’s top circus acts and artists.
Sofia’s latest trapeze creation is undoubtedly her finest work to date. It reflects her talent and her love for perfection. This act is sensual and thrilling and class at the same time. A highly challenging routine is immaculately performed whilst the choice of music, costume design and overall direction, all conceived by Sofia, perfectly complements the technical rigors of the act.
She floats so effortlessly in the air and for a moment you believe that you too can go up there and do it! It is simply beautiful. |
